Well, another relic many of you may have lying around the house those Disney VHS movies. You know, the popular ones such as Aladdin, Lion King and Little Mermaid. There are a lot to list.
In today's world, you may find that you no longer need them as you have access to them all on Disney+. Or, maybe you're just curious as to what they are worth since you could be sitting on a gold mine after all. Whatever your reason may be, they may be worthsomething.
In today's post, I wanted to talk about how you can sell your Disney VHS movies for cash as well as how you can figure out how much your collection is worth right now. Whether you just want to get rid of them or see if they are worth something, hopefully, these tips can help you.
Which Disney VHS Movies Are Worth the Most?
Let it be known that not all Disney VHS movies are worth a lot. In fact, most of your collection, unfortunately, isn't worth much. That doesn't mean you may not have a gem.
In my research, if you have any of the following Disney VHS tapes, youmayhave struck gold. Of course, use my tips above to figure out the definite value. Here they are…
The Black Diamond
The Disney "Black Diamond" tapes were released in the 1984 to 1994 era. And, to know if you have a Black Diamond tape, you will want to look at the spine of your case as it will be printed directly on it. In my research while doing this guide, I found that the average Black Diamond sold north of $50, with some selling for as much as $200. They are notworth thousands, however. You may have seen this rumor online, but it is mostly false.
Some of the most popular Black Diamond options included Robin Hood, Dumbo, Sleeping Beauty, Bambi and Peter Pan, to name a few.
Classics
Another option to look out for, just like the Black Diamond collection, are the classics.
To find out if you have a "Classic," it won't be printed on the spine; rather, you will want to look closely on the tape for the wording "Walt Disney Classic" on the actual video tape. It will look something like this…
If your tape has both the Black Diamond stampandthe Walt Disney Classic imprint on the tape itself, it could be worth a smidge more.
Discontinued
Out of all the options I list here, this one could be worth the most, however, it tends to be the rarest.
If your Disney VHS is considered to be discontinued or even rare, then it could make it that much more valuable. For instance, the Little Mermaid VHS of the past changed its cover artwork when it was first released. In doing that, that case was no longer produced, making it a rarity. In fact, it's so rare, new copies can sell for upward of $3,000.
To know if your copy is discontinued or considered to be "rare," a quick search, especially on eBay, can often yield a definite answer.
How to Sell Disney VHS Movies for Cash
If you're ready to sell your Disney VHS, then you will find that you do have quite a few options. Whether you want to list it and then ship it or meet up in person, there are options to consider.
Listed below, I tried to cover every option I could think of, including the obvious. As there's no right or wrong answer, it's really up to you as to what you're comfortable with as well as how much you want to make since some options can make you more than others.
Use eBay to Figure out the Value and Even Sell
This one is obvious, I know,butit's a great way to at least see how much your Disney VHS movies are worth. And, to figure it out, it's quite simple.
What you will want to is search for the VHS you have. In doing, just make sure you include VHS in your title so that you weed out the DVDs and digital codes. For instance, if I were to search for the Little Mermaid, I would search for something such as "Little Mermaid VHS."
When you get to the search results and everything looks okay, you will want to head directly to the menu to filter the results so that you're only looking at the sold items. On your desktop, I will list it below, but on your mobile app, you will have to click on the "lines" to find this.
Click on that link to see what had sold and then closely examine the listings. It will look something like this…
When you look at these listings, be sure to pay close attention to the date sold as well as the exact product. You will want to make sure that is, indeed, the same Disney VHS you have as well as one that has sold within the past few days, not months ago. Looking at that screenshot above, it's safe to say my used VHS could be worth $9~only ifI had the banned cover. As there were a ton to sift through, you will, again, want to make sure you're looking at the right one.
Even if you don't want to use eBay to sell your VHS, it's a great resource to see what America is willing to pay. Of course, you can use eBay to sell your Disney tapes, but you will have to remember to factor in the fees in doing so.
Personally, eBay will be your best option for a few reasons. For one, you're reaching the world, which simply means you're going to get the market value. Many of the other options I list, unfortunately, only deal with locals, so you may be limited to what you make.
And, secondly, you can ship your tapes off, which means no personal contact. A lot of people, including myself, don't like meeting in person. It takes time out of your day, some people flake out, and who knows who you are dealing with. eBay allows you to mail out at your leisure, all without the need of meeting anyone.

Facebook Marketplace
If you don't want to deal with the fees and want cash in hand as early as an hour, then you may want to use the Facebook Marketplace. And, don't worry, if you don't know how to use it, I cover it extensively in my Facebook garage sale guide. It's a lot easier than you think, I promise!
The only thing I don't like about the Facebook Marketplace is that you're dealing with locals only, so that may mean you won't get as much as you would on eBay. Plus, you have to meet in person, which some people are iffy about, I get it.
Nonetheless, it's an option to consider, especially if you want the money right now. It as easy as posting a small description and picture just like eBay. You will need a Facebook account to use it, however.

Etsy
Believe it or not, but Etsy is a great place to sell your VHS tapes as well. In fact, if you search right now, you will notice hundreds of sellers doing the same.
While most people aren't coming to Etsy for Disney VHS necessarily since it's mainly focused on handmade goods, you never know if you find the right buyer.
If you have an Etsy account, consider posting your Disney tapes up for sale as this could be a great alternative in comparison to eBay. It won't be as great as eBay, but it's yet another option to consider.

Facebook Groups
This one takes a pinch more work, but it could work to your advantage, seeing Facebook Groups are very targeted.
Like the Facebook Marketplaces, you can either sell directly on a local city garage sale page or you can even target a Disney classifieds-like group.
There's no limit as to how many groups you can join, but just make sure you read the rules before posting as they all vary. This is another way to make cash as most of your buyers will be local, so be prepared for that, but if you're in a national group, some may want it mailed.

Apps
The app stores are filled with a ton of options if you want to sell locally as well. These apps make it very easy to sell just about anything you have, including Disney VHS tapes.
Now, the thing is, just like the Facebook Marketplace, is that you won't get the most for your money, especially if you're selling something rare. So, if you are going this route, just make sure you're selling the more common VHS tapes and you're happy with getting a few dollars each.
There are a lot of apps available on the market, but some of my favorites include the following:

OfferUp
LetGo
Craigslist
Each app is pretty similar, in that you create an account, list your item and then wait for a buyer. When you get a hit, communicate with your buyer to figure out a price as well as where you want to meet up to complete the deal.
How Much Are My Disney VHS Tapes Worth?
I went ahead and researched the most popular Disney options and included my findings below. What I did was explore the most recent eBay sold listings so that you get an accurate number. Just remember, the sold listings are what matter most, not the active listings.
Below, I researched the most popular Black Diamond editions, with the average price next to it. Remember that this price can change at any time, so do use it as an average only.

I tried to weed through only those that were in great condition, so again, I can't stress it enough to use it as an average only.
Final Thoughts
Most of your Disney VHS tapes aren't worth much, even though they may seem like a classic. Sure, somecouldbe worth $50, maybe $100, but it's rare, as you can see from the table posted above.
If you do plan on selling your Disney VHS tapes, only do so if you feel you need to clean out the closet or you need to raise a few extra bucks. It should be no different than holding a garage sale to get rid of your belongings. I hope at least one of those options help you succeed.
